I have never felt such a reaction to this song. But driving home, when the music started, I knew I was in trouble. So I weaved in and out of 5 o'clock traffic and sobbed.

That's All I Wanted
Something special, something sacred -
In your eyes
For just one moment
To be bold and naked
At your side

Sometimes I think that you'll never
Understand me
Maybe this time is forever..
Say it can be

That's all you wanted
Something special, someone sacred -
In your life
Just for one moment
To be warm and naked
At my side

Sometimes I think that you'll never
Understand me
But something tells me together
We'd be happy

(baby)
I will be your father figure
(oh baby)
Put your tiny hand in mine
(I'd love to)
I will be your preacher teacher
(be your daddy)
Anything you have in mind
(it would make me)
I will be your father figure
(very happy)
I have had enough of crime
(please let me)
I will be the one who loves you -
Until the end of time

That's all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That's all I wanted
Just to see my baby's
Blue eyes shine
This time I think that my lover
Understands me
If we have faith in each other
Then we can be
Strong

I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
I will be the one who loves you
Until the end of time

If you are the desert
I'll be the sea
If you ever hunger -
Hunger for me
Whatever you ask for
That's what I'll be. .

So when you remember the ones who have lied
Who said that they cared
But then laughed as you cried
Beautiful darling
Don't think of me

Because all I ever wanted
It's in your eyes baby, baby
And love can't lie. No...
(greet me with the eyes of a child)
(heaven is a kiss and a smile)
Just hold on, hold on
I won't let you go, my baby

I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
Will be your father figure
Have had enough of crime
So I am gonna love you
Until the end of time
Will be your father
Will be your preacher
I'll be your daddy
Will be the one who loves you until the end of time

Ok, well another dirty little secret I have is that I lurve George Michael. I think Father Figure and I Can't Make You Love Me are two of the most moving songs ever. Don't feel silly. They're emotional songs :)

That song holds a very special memory for me. A few days after I had given birth to the daughter I gave up for adoption, I was alone in my home, and my family had gone away on a Christmas vacation. The year was 1988, and the day was December 24th, I was standing at the kitchen sink, while the song played on the radio, I fell to my knees crying for many reasons, but the main reason is all my hopes for the baby I just gave up for adoption was held in that one song.

Thats a great story, even if a little sad. I always thought adoption must be so hard for the birth parents. *hugs*

I hope I haven't brought up a bad memory for you honey. I'm sure if you felt strongly enough to do that, then it was the right thing. *hugs*

Honestly, it isn't a bad memory at all. Sometimes in your life you know what the right thing is to do, and that is the only choice to make. One can hope and dream even for a child that they will never raise. That song came out at the exact same time I was in a HUGE transition, and trying to cope with a decision I had made. This was the first decision I had to make that not only effected my life, but another person's life as well. I read those words, and I still feel like the 18 year old child that I was, and still hope that I made the best decision, for the baby, I called Jessica. I know deep in my heart, this was the best decison for her and myself, but mostly for her. She deserved more than I could have begun to offer her. Her biological father tried to stop the adoption, and this was the very first time in my life, I knew I had a Momma bear in me. Lets just say, the agent I was working with, said, "I don't know what you said to him, but he changed his mind REAL quick." Literally, I threatened him with death, as fictitious as my threat was, he really believed that My daddy was a member of the mafia, and his body would NEVER be found.

Really? I never did until Friday. Although I'm way more emotional these days, so I'm not really surprised.

It is a very good song but I think I would have liked it better if all the girls at the strip club I was working at then hadn't overplayed it to death as soon as it came out. Everytime I hear it I get visions of busty blondes crawling around the stage sucking their thumbs. Whatever. Strippers get very skewed visions of popular songs after watching their collegues dance to them

You worked at a strip club? How cool is that? Were you stripping? Not to sound incredulous, but I don't know that much about the various jobs you've held.

And how frustrating is it that I never got a notice about this comment. grrr
