I have a friend who can't fold maps. She also can't wrap presents. Just made me wonder.

I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't a relationship between the skills. Both involve being able to extrapolate from a small part to the whole (the folded or full map from the individual folded sections, or the wrapped gift from the individual folds and creases), and require some manual dexterity (clean creases, smooth surfaces, etc.).
