Here's your ponderable for the day:

A woman here at work has ten dozen red roses decorating her office. When I stopped to see them, one of the people gathered there made a comment about "what he must have done, that he needed to send these". Of course not knowing her, my thoughts had immediately gone a different course, toward "what I'd need to do in order to receive those".  Which gave both of us a wicked laugh.

Experience has proven all I needed to do for the dozen(s) I've recieved in the past has been to bitch before my birthday. Now, granted the woman at the office is stunning, and no-nonsense sweet, but apparently that alone isn't enough to warrant roses every day, so ten dozen does indeed mean something was amiss, or something shook his foundation.

What would it take for you to send or receive a dozen?
Two?
Or Ten?

Flower Power

Greetings,

I would only send roses to the office to celebrate something.

Bad news, I try to keep that private.

Good answer. Upon seeing those, this song came into my head - which coincidentally, I'd heard on the radio just this morning:

The Man Song
by Sean Morey
I don't take no crap from anybody! ... else but you.
I wear the pants around here!...when I'm finished with your laundry.
'Cause I'm a guy you don't want to fight! ... when I say "jump" you say "yeah, right".
I'm the man of this house! ... until you get home.

What I say goes around here! ... right out the window.
And I don't want to hear a lot of whining! ... so I'll shut up.
The sooner you learn who's boss around here! ... the sooner you can give me my orders, dear.
'Cause I am the head honcho! ... but it's all in my head.

And I can have sex anytime! ... that you want.
'Cause I'm a man who has needs! ... but they're not that important.
And don't expect any flowers from me! ... because if I'm not mistaken you prefer jewelry.
I'm the king of my castle! ... when you're not around.

And I'll drink and watch sports whenever I want! ... to get into trouble.
And I'll come home when I'm good and ready! ... to sleep on the couch.
Because a man's got to do what a man's got to do! ... and I'm going to do what you tell me to.
Because I'm top dog around here! ... but I've been neutered!

LMAO OMG

I had forgotten all about that song! I haven't listened to Bob & Tom in forever! Thanks for the laugh.

I'll have to ponder your question a bit more. I'm in wifebot mode right now.

I send flowers (not necessarily all roses) on special occasions like Valentine's Day or birthdays -- or if I am feeling romantic and have extra money at the time.

You have a romantic heart.

So what would prompt more than a dozen, or a bigger-than usual bouquet? Maybe an anniversary? Or popping the question?

Hmmm, I'm not sure. Possibly an anniversary but it would also require my not being too broke at the time.

I see. I personally love flowers, but feel a bit bad when I receive them because they die, and in a way I think of them as a waste of money. Like The Man Song says, I prefer jewelry. Or something else that stays with me. Although meals out are nice.

What's Gitta's take on the subject, do you know?

Well, she is happy when I send her or bring her flowers. I haven't tried jewelry yet.

I really do not give gifts to show love.
I am more a hands on kind of guy, who lets his actions speak for themselves. I would much rather cook a nice dinner and share conversation by the fireplace afterward to express my love. I also send unexpected text messages to Gretchen's phone while she is at work, hide notes in her lunch,
send her e mails that tell her how much I want her.
Anyone can just buy a gift. I like to show how I feel.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I like that sort of affection best too. Although sometimes I have to be reminded by a third party that I'm being shown that sort of love.

Possible ideas:

10th anniversary maybe? He did something real bad and is kissing ass big time? She had a busy night last night and got lucky ten different times...(this one is joke but you never know)

I once got roses from a secret admirer sent to my office and I NEVER found out who sent them, to this day it still puzzles my mind. Other than that my daddy only sends me roses on Valentine's day every year.

Ten dozen that must look and smell incredible in that office!!

I was surprised to learn it was ten dozen. They were in three vases. My nose apparently isn't working well (I was stopped up all night) because I couldn't smell them.

I'd send/give them out of love and for special occasions, not from being bitched out. I'd rather try and figure out what the issue was, then work to not have it happen again. I certainly wouldn't give a whole bunch of flowers as a way of apologizing for something. I would probably do something that has a little more substance and staying power, like doing something nice around the house (if we lived together). That, or if we hadn't done anything together in a while, take her somewhere so we can have some real time alone. While they are nice, I sometimes feel like flowers are a waste and an easy out for some people.

Connie's not crazy about roses, so she'd need to ask for them, or hint that she wanted them, to get them on something other than Valentine's Day. If I had screwed up badly, and needed to make amends, a few dozen roses wouldn't get me back in her good graces! :-)

I admire a man who bothers to learn what she likes and doesn't like.

Even those who aren't terribly socially adept (and alas, I'm not gifted in that way) have to learn a few things about their significant other after a while. :-)

Ive never sent anybody roses (yet, it could happen, who knows?) but I did send a neat flower arrangement to a young man recently, just for the helluvit. Very cool thing in a big ole margarita glass after he'd been on a vacation, just to "extend the vacation" a bit.

Now, for me to receive them, hard to say.. I got some from a friend in HS once on a birthday and I think Bobby brought some home once on a Valentines night, late after playing music because he realized what day it was.. he also got ice cream, which means he stopped at the 24hr walmart and found it all at once at 3am *G* But I guess it was the thought that counted. :)

Ten dozen, I can't imagine.

Yep, it's definitely the thought at that point! I've never sent flowers of any sort except when someone was ill. Not sure I'd start, although you never can tell.

The only person to ever send me roses was my Mom. She sent them to each of us on Valentine's one year, anonymously so we wouldn't be dejected about everyone else at school getting all kinds of attention.

In fact, I think only my aunts and grandmother have ever sent me any other kind of flower too. People just don't send me flowers. I was nearly killed by a drunk and no one sent me a damn thing--not even a card.

My first question - were they all from the same person? ;)

I'd guess a 10 yr anniversary... but wow, what a pile of money to spend on things that are dead.

I prefer single rose with a handwritten note ANY day.

The only times I've gotten a dozen roses was for anniversaries, and once for my birthday.

From: [identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they were all from the same person. There were three vases, and each appeared to have about 40 roses in it. All conversation implied one person sent them.

As for me, I like handwritten notes better, too. They last for EVAH.
