My God loves me. He reminded me this afternoon.

I'm snaking down the worst hill of the entire route to Raleigh, 45 mph behind a semi, cars so close on the left that I could elbow them, the road clinging to the mountain on the right. The rain lets up just a bit, and I catch a glimpse of white on my left, a hint of the beauty that is to come. The sky begins to turn gold, gilding everything within my line of sight. Pairs of red lights glow around me like bloody lightning bugs, while the truck reflects a lovely shade of amber from the sky. The mountains curve around the edges of the basin like an old broken bowl, sharpness worn down from years of use, and as I slip into the passing lane the basin opens up around me. To my far left, so far that I feel as if I'm suspended, a black ribbon winds through the valley, sparkling with silver-white headlights as the traffic hovers in symmetry as far as the eye can see. Ahead it's dark, true dusk, and the sky is a deep dusty gray, but to my right, its not night yet - the deep gray eases into navy with mauve clouds edged gold and the sky beyond is the most incredible blue ever, clear, summer-sweet blue. Arching over my left shoulder is a magnificent rainbow that stretches from Virginia to North Carolina.

This must be a very beautiful place... And note that getting a praise from me for describing a rural place is a very high honor (and no, I am not full of my self that much, it is just the fact that I don“t like being in the nature much, I prefer big cities... my mother says that I am the new and improved species, homus urbanus... *sigh*).

LOL! Homus Urbanus, I like that. I could show you LOADS of beautiful places in a car trip from West Virginia down the east coast. I never really thought about it being rural, but I guess it is. To me, its just space, you know? Actually, this particular place always stands out to me because there are very few times that you are able to see such a large area at once and get a real grasp of the fact that it is an actual basin. My mountains fascinate me.

I am trying to imagine how it must look like, but I can only imagine and not picture it, because here everything is small, so no basin in mountains for us... it must be strange and inderesting...

Beautiful description, and I'm pleased you found something to lift your mood a little. I hate getting out into the countryside (too lazy most of the time) but once I'm there I usually love it.

Sounds like I have another place to add to my list of places to visit in the US :)

*Thinks sometimes she reads more into his words than he intends, or misinterprets them deliberately. Decides she should get a good hard spanking for that. Then realises that's probavbly why she did it in the first place. Just grins*

I used to be such a GOOD girl. And now here I am, earning a spanking just for dropping hints. How's a girl to ever earn a reward around here?

And what kind of rewards do I get if I earn enough points?

I am continually astonished at your powers of expression. You have a rare gift for being able to show people the beauty of the world through your eyes.

I must admit--I'm starting (?) to get a little envious. :)

Flattery will get you everwhere....

Actually, your appreciation really warms my soul, because often these entries feel as if they've been pulled from me with forceps. These kind words make it worth the labor. I'm beginning to understand why it meant so little to Brent to write that "kitten with a whip" bit. It took him little effort to produce it, thus it meant little. While these things are an effort for me, and thus they mean more. My journal is becoming very valuable to me.
