My mother's oldest brother died last month. His daughter Bonnie and a friend brought his ashes up from Florida this weekend. They were supposed to scatter him over his mother's grave, but Mom decided to wait until all the family had been notified. A week or two, she said. I had to object, because Bonnie can't afford to come back from Florida in a week or two, and mom didn't seem to be concerned at all that she would not be able to attend her father's memorial. Turns out my mother is feeling hasty because she doesn't want her brother "hanging around".

I offered to take him in until summer, when Bonnie can afford to return, and when all the other family members will be in for the reunion. I asked Scarlett if she had any objections to us taking Uncle Carlos in. She shrugged. It's just a box, after all. I hope mom will agree. Despite her disgruntle when her sister objected to the activities at the memorial, she is remarkably cold toward his family that DOES want to participate. Aggravates the living shit outta me.

I'm VERY angry with Scarlett's teacher. She's not been communicative with me at all regarding her classroom preferences or rules. I've sent her a note, and I write notes to her at least once a week in Scarlett's assignment book. She never answers. On Wednesday, school was dismissed early, and Scarlett's GIFTED teacher (NOT her regular teacher) called me before Scarlett left. She said that she was aware Scarlett was supposed to go home, but that Scarlett was objecting, and wanted to go home with a friend. The teacher asked me if that was acceptable, and I agreed. The gifted teacher understood that I had completed the proper forms, said so, and was simply calling to ask for permission for Scarlett to do something ELSE.

So I get a NEW form this weekend, in Scarlett's assignment book, from her regular teacher. A terse note written across the top asking that the form be completed, because, she says,... there should be no phone calls.  And to beat all? She spelled Scarlett's name wrong. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGOMGOMG! I am so fucking PISSED! I'm ready to rip her head off. And I fully intend to do so tomorrow. I'm going to call the school, I think. Ask to talk to her, or something. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, that business with Scarlett's name misspelled REALLY clinched it for me.

Being a teacher is no longer something I see many take a great deal of pride in. Instead, it's just another job. =(

The first woman I talked to just raved about her. That's why I wrote the note to her, to try and introduce myself and let her know I wanted to work with her. But another mother, who has an ADHD child, doesn't seem too fond of her. So that might have something to do with it.

OMGWTF!

I hate it when people spelled my daughter Tamra's name wrong. Up to and including her father!!!!

That would be the clincher for me as well.

Breathe deep and give her a call

Yeah! So glad you know exactly what I'm talking about. I can even handle it when people slip and call her Charlotte, instead of Scarlett. But Jebus! A teacher?? Misspelling? Just gripes my ass.

Good news might be that Scarlett never got dinged on a report for misspelling her name :)

eh gads!

It is ridiculous, and inexcusable. If you don't get a satisfactory response from the teacher, work your way up the chain of command (principal, school board, etc.).

I shall indeed to go the principal. And THANK YOU! I so respect your opinion, Noah.

I really wouldn't do this over the phone, because she could just as easily hang up on you, and then your pissed-off-o-meter would go off the charts. I would call for a face-to-face appointment, and if she hedges, then call a meeting through her principal, with the principal present.

Good luck. Intelligent moms make teachers nervous.

Oh, but I don't think she would dare hang up on me. I can control my anger, after sleeping on it a while, so I would be as sweet as pie on the phone. But I would still confront her. And I am thinking about asking for a face-to-face anyway. We moved to the area Thanksgiving weekend, so Scarlett was placed in her class at the beginning of December. I don't think she took the additional student idea well.
