Arrgh! Avast!

Okay, got that over with.

Does anyone know how difficult it is, and how much it would cost to refit a heat pump from gas to electric? Or whatever you do to switch them?

if it's 2 separate units (pump outside furnace in) you just need to change the gas furnace to an electric air handler (has fan and heat strips that kick on it the temperature gets too cold). The refrigerant has to be pumped out of the unit, move the coil that's in the furnace to the air handler (if it doesn't fit, you would need to replace that), might have to replace the refrigerant lines, fill the unit back up with refrigerant and then it should be good to go. if it is a package unit (all in one case and sits outside, you might not be able to change just part. if I were still in the industry I could give you prices but I have been out too long. I just thought you might want to know what could be involved changing it.

I definitely wanted to know this. Thanks! Brent has this rule when we're looking at houses: absolutely NO GAS HEAT. He hates the gas company, but most of the older houses in the area are forced air gas. So I wondered what it would take to make the switch.

Gas is definitely not the way to go anymore. It's just too freaking expensive. You're in Huntington, right? My son has been apt shopping and complains about the same thing... they're all gas :\
