Another comfortable morning, and low 80's day.

I received the National Geographic weekly email this morning - I always look forward to this email!

Africa's landscape is changing, much to the concern of conservationists, and others.  Some experts say that another ice age is possible due to the changes mankind has made to his surroundings and his use of natural resources. Other experts say that this is bullshit. Is global warming a reality? Is it influenced by mankind, or is it the natural course of the Earth and her atmosphere? Archeologists have found multitudes of evidence that many continents were covered with ice thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of years ago. Man survived this cold, and the warming trends that followed, which caused extinction of many cold-weather animals. Did mankind cause that meltoff and ending of the ice age? Was it meteor related, or again, just the natural course of the Earth and her atmosphere? All ponderable subjects and worth our investigation. But are they worth our panic and alarmist behavior? Maybe. Maybe not.  I don't know - I am more inclined to react to the day's weather with appropriate clothing and the occasional headache.  I do what I consider reasonable to conserve resources.  But I'm not yet driven to action or protest.  I'm more inclined to believe that whatever cataclysmic events may be approaching are so far in the future that I'm not likely to see them.

The Mosuo in China have what I consider a wondrous way of life, and FABULOUS fashion sense! (note- this article contains items as fact which are discredited as myth on other sites)  I'd like to learn more about these lovely people. They are doing their best to preserve their way of life, and I hope others will do all they can to help them succeed.  I'm surprised that more feminist organizations haven't promoted this culture.

Elephant contraception - working to preserve elephant herds without allowing the overpopulation which sometimes occurs in captivity. Providing plenty of food and water for a herd of elephants can backfire on a wildlife preserve if the herd reproduces too quickly. This is a very interesting video.

As most my flist knows, I'm an Anglophile.  Especially when it comes to the Royal Family, extra especially the Princes.  (I think it's because Princess Diana was close to my age.)

I was highly amused by this set of photos, and the questions it raised regarding just WHAT Prince Phillip was doing.
I found this video on msnbc today, from January of this year, and learned that the Queen is changing with the times, and staying quite up-to-date in this electronic age.   Queen Elizabeth has an iPod!   Wonder what's on her playlist.

Now I'm off to be lunch with my favorite guy.
