North Pole May Be Ice Free by Summer

I've heard for some time that polar bears are losing their habitat.  I wonder what this new development will mean for the rest of the world.

The beginning of the end of the World as we know it, I think. It's happening faster than we know, and this is only what is being fed to us by the news media.

I'm sad for the polar bears. They used to be sleek and terrifyingly beautiful. Now all I see these days are pictures of hungry, scrawny polar bears. I'm sad for them and sad for us as well. :-(

It's wonderful news! It means longer growing seasons in more northerly latitudes, and far more efficient polar shipping lanes for cargo.

But if the ice moves, it will move down into the more northerly latitudes. What if it only means higher water levels there, and not longer growing seasons?

There are no more northerly latitudes than the north pole, Anita.
:-)

It's already been far warmer in the past millennium than the temperatures that those who believe the global warming alarmists are concerned about. The result was indeed longer growing seasons. And icebergs calve from glaciers and travel south every year, and have since long before our species showed up. They're beautiful and (if you enjoy the freshest water on earth) very useful.
