It's not that the remark itself was so offensive. It's the kind of thing that if said in a private, informal atmosphere wouldn't be bad at all. Or if he was a private citizen. Unfortunately, he chose to make this remark as the Vice President of the United States at an official government press conference in front of many, many reporters. He's a complete dumbass for thinking that this wouldn't be reported on and come back on him. Also to consider is that WV (usually a blue state) turned into a red state to get him elected not once, but twice. His administration said what they had to say to get elected and then turned around on us when we were no longer of any use to them. It's not really surprising that he said it; just a good example of the dumbassitude of this administration.
