Elephants and Elizabeth Taylor
Oct. 2nd, 2008 01:42 pmElephants are such fascinating creatures, don't you think? They have so many traits humans find endearing, but I'm not going to go and wax rhapsodic trying to anthropomorphize them. I saw this article today on Neatorama, a site I like very much, about elephants coming close to man in order to get fresh mangoes. I love mangoes, I can certainly understand why they want them! It immediately brought to mind the movie "Elephant Walk" with Elizabeth Taylor. I watched it once, but didn't really follow the story until the end. I loved the movie even though I didn't get it. I was too young, I think. Now I want to watch it again, and try to pick up the plot a bit more.
Another Elizabeth Taylor movie I love is "Suddenly Last Summer." Tennessee Williams is BRILLIANT, (Remember "A Streetcar Named Desire?") But "Suddenly Last Summer" is SO over the top Gothic, haunting with an appalling yet can't-look-away ending. Of course "Streetcar" is haunting as well. Tennessee Williams had a lot of issues, I think, and created very compelling images as a result. He should really be on my interests list.
Some recommended movies here, and some rambling.
As usual with my journal, you get a cornucopia of haphazard, arbitrary and bewildering fascination.
