I have been to the mountain....

AND I HAVE SEEN THE FACE OF GOD.

AND GOD IS SWEDISH.

Oh.
My.
God.

We were there when they opened the doors at ten this morning.

We sat at Steak & Shake at 1:00 p.m.
waiting for a waitress to notice us
and as I looked into the faces
of my mother and my child
I realized...

we had just endured quite possibly the most traumatic experience of our lives.

I swear to you, they looked like they'd just seen a tornado.

And the tornado was red, and black, and silver and white
with purple
and green
and strange floral prints.

At least I think they were floral.

My mother will NEVER set foot in another IKEA.

EVER.

Personally?

I can't wait to go back.

Ohmygod.

By the by.  I have SHITLOADS to tell you people. But my daughter is still washing IKEA out of her hair, and I need to get her out of the shower.  It's been 30 minutes already.

IKEA is adictive, totally addictive. Next time you go, you have to eat the swedish meatballs.

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I MUST. You are right. I REAAAAALLY wanted to, but for some reason despite our hunger mom didn't even mention staying there for lunch. And the prices were reasonable too.

[identity profile] popfiend.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's cheap and it's more than adequate.

Have the swedish meatballs.

You must.

Oh and *HUGS*!!!

[identity profile] manifestress.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
WOW, I love me some IKEA, I want to move right in!

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh me too! All that chrooooome! And red enamel! It's like the best psychedelic drugs without the hangover.

[identity profile] onecrowesorrow.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
You can EAT at IKEA? Am I dumb, or am I missing something?

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
You're missing something. The IKEA in Pittsburgh has a restaurant inside. From what I've heard tell, they all do. You can get swedish meatballs (no surprise there) and lots of other stuff that looks fabbu. I really wanted the salmon.

[identity profile] onecrowesorrow.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! I've never heard of that, but then again I live in Canada.

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
You have no IKEA in Canada?

[identity profile] onecrowesorrow.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I live on the east coast and the closest is in Ontario. My sister shops there. Sadly, no restaurant.

I MUST HAVE THE BLUE GLASS EGGS.

Even if I have to step on tiny baby Jesuses to get to them.

I couldn't FIND them yesterday, after having seen them upstairs, and I was FREAKIN'!

[identity profile] kokopelleigh.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
we will have to go forth and procure the eggs soon, then. good enough excuse for me to go. besides...the baby jesuses want for your happiness.

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 11:04 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 10:19 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-29 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
oooooooohmetoo

And you would love the conservatory, it's Victorian, and has gorgeous architecture. I'm going to post some of that this evening I think. I thought of you while snapping pics there.

My middle daughter got her cabinets and counter tops at Ikea for her kitchen renovation and my youngest daughter gets all her storage solutions there. We just got one here in the Boston area and I've been just once and the path through the store made me feel like I was stuck in a "it's a small world" boat where there is another room around every corner.

OMG YES YES YES!!!!

My friend Matt had been telling me for some time - years, maybe - about the wonders of IKEA. His job requires him to go to Sacramento periodically, so he would take that opportunity to do a little retail therapy. I don't get to Sac too often. But then when I went to the Wine Country in September, I came back via Sac and stopped at IKEA. Everything Matt said was true, and more. I couldn't believe it. Now I am trying to convince Gary that a trip to IKEA will pay for itself. $6 lace curtains! Cinnamon rolls! $1.99 giant wine glasses!

My poor mom. I swear she had new bags under her eyes. And Scarlett just stared off into space. But when I asked her last night if she wanted to go again, her whole face lit up!

[identity profile] jennyast2.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
why do people never believe me they have to go until they see that which is IKEA?!? I'm glad you went now you can help me spread the love for the IKEA and maybe next time I plan a group trip it'll be more than just me and rick :)

[identity profile] sapphirescarlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I WANTED to go last time, just couldn't. Can't even remember why now. But I must have the glass eggs. They will haunt me.
