I had a VERY different experience with The Captain, only having seen a few episodes, and not watching it at all when for my 5th birthday I got a personalized "Happy Birthday" Captain Kangaroo record. So here was this man I never watched calling me "John" through the record player as though he knew me, and all these kids I never met singing songs to me, and it creeped me out and pissed me off. I silently resented my parents for giving me this abomination and never played it. Over time I forgave The Captain but never became a fan.

6 - unprepared?

My mother was a hairdresser and did the hair of the bodies at a local funeral parlor. She said they complained less if she wasn't so careful with the (old style) curling iron. I spent a lot of time there and yes, I was able to view unprepared bodies. Regardless of that, I sat with both of my parents and waited for the funeral home to pick them up when they died, but yes, I have seen the white tables in actual use.

Yes, three times. I stayed with my Mothers body for hours until someone came. I held a friend who had AIDS as he died (by his own hand) until someone pulled me away. The third was a homeless man years ago who died sitting up on a curb in the Quarter. He was in the same spot the second day I saw him, and when I touched him to see if he was okay, he fell over, obviously having died alone and quietly.
