(no subject)

Scarlett took a shower while I cooked dinner.

She sat at the table, hair washed and uncombed, and informed me "Oh by the way! Our chorus concert is tonight!"

"What?"

"Mom, I gave you the blue paper to sign the other day!"

"Um. No, you didn't."

"I didn't?"

"So what time is the concert?"

"Seven."

I look at the clock, it's 6:55.

"Oh well."

"But it's a hundred points! My final grade!"

"That's too bad. Isn't it?"

Good for you.

A "teachable moment."

I KNOW so. She will have to make sure to write a note...post it on the fridge or whatever. Hey, she has to understand that you have a kabillion other responsibilites- she is old enough to be responsible to remind you (ahead of time!)

Good job, Momma.

No wonder her grades are so poor. Hell NO you're not rushing around like that. What did she think was going to happen? I would honestly ask her that question.

At some point kids have to learn responsibility for their own actions or inactions. How longhas she had to tell you about this concert and how long has she known wha part of her grade this would count? This is a tough but very necessary lesson for her to learn.

But does her condition manifest itself in, uhm, absentmindedness?

Yup. She'll learn from this, hopefully.

I always made a point of handing stuff to the folks way before just so I knew I'd done it.

What will happen to the little munchkin now re: grades and stuff? Retake?

Good job =) Scarlett needs to learn, and boy she will.

WOW!

I'm not sure I would have had the guts.

But you did just teach her that momma cannot bail her out of all the trouble she gets into.
