Girlies -women -females

Does anybody else's nose work overtime during certain weeks?  Mine does, and it gets on my last fucking nerve. I KNOW there is no feline or canine fecal matter anywhere near me, nor is there a wet cat within sniffing distance.

So cut that shit out, nose. You don't fool me.

ah, hormones. i craved dirt when i was pregnant with laine. i also ate toothpicks because the wood tasted good. no wonder the child has issues.

and be glad. i coulda lived the rest of my life just fine without having seen that.

Cravings! Scarlett and I were talking about it just this weekend. I craved vinegar - to the point where I drank juice from the pickle jar. I ate more hot and sour soup than anything else during the first three months because that was all I could keep down. I learned to love my mother's wilted salad dressing, and ended up putting vinegar in chicken noodle soup too.

YES!!!!!!!!!! I DID THAT TOO!!! ate damned salt and vinegar chips BY THE BAG. so bad, for awhile i was walking around with my lips all puckered and chapped and split from the binge.
i still love to eat cucumbers in vinegar. mmm.

OH yes!!!!mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Well, cucumbers in vinegar is just a Southern thing. A little black pepper and YEAH! A staple on Nanny's table. But methinks the Nurse Kokopelleigh can recognize pica polydipsia when she sees it. Common in the preggos as a temporary thing, no? And dirt is classic, right?

[identity profile] kokopelleigh.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
PICA!
YES!
FUCK! THAT was the term. i knew the concept like the back of my hand, but the term esacped me. maternity nursing always mystified me. in the ER, most of the people who came in having eaten dirt and shards of wood didn't do so by their own choosing. heh.

and oh god...polydipsia...every time i hear that word i think of the stupid little song thingy they made us learn in school for diabetes - polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, la-la yada yada you don't care and it's really stupid so bye.

:P

God you're so silly.

[identity profile] reallyamermaid.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, here's where I get fuzzy on it. My fuzzy memory is that PICA refers to eating and if you add polydipsia it means eating and drinking. But logically and by Latin that doesn't make sense to me. So yeah, my knowledge is apparently incomplete. [I know just enough to be dangerous, mwuhahah!] But occasionally I can be medically useful. For some reason, the terminology jives with my brain. Crazy brain.

i know what you mean. certain stuff sticks in my head, too.
depending on what it is, i either know my shit like the back of my hand or stare blankly and go 'uhhhhh'.

...said the girl who considers the Merck Manual an interesting bathroom read. :P~

[identity profile] reallyamermaid.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the Merck manual is good bathroom reading. As far as the back of my hand, I have a CLASSIC bifurcation on the left one that should make students salivate. If you miss this, you should turn in your scrubs.

yep. saw it at bakefest.

it's been years since i've stuck anyone, but old habits die hard. some people look at others and think 'nice eyes' or 'nice ass'. i do that, too, but my eyes will often migrate elsewhere and i'll catch myself thinking 'whoa god nice antecubital, i could aim and hit that bad boy with one eye closed from 20 paces out'
...and here i go again being a freak. isn't this thread in anita's journal?
god. sorry anita. and anita's friends. i'll go be weird in my own LJ.
