I think this is going to be my last Chihuly post for a while.  I love all my pictures, but wanted to save the best here in my journal.  I will probably make some new icons now that I have pics of my own.

Here are some more pics from Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh.

Here are some of the pictures I took Saturday at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh.
Despite the fact that Scarlett was a shit, I was grateful for the opportunity to see such
beauty and art in person.  My only real regret was not touching some of the glass.
I had plenty of chances, but was too reverend for my own satisfaction.

I didn't touch up the color on the pic of Scarlett because it tended to make her kinda red.

The sage-y color of the room where she's standing is accurate - it was grey and blue and only
slightly green. And it smelled fabulous. Scarlett took a sketch pad, but I don't know how many
things she drew while she was there.  She was too busy darting from thing to thing. As a result
she missed a lot.

The orchid room was a real pleasure, and a great opportunity for me to experiment with my flash
and my telephoto. (as you can see)  They're so vaginal.

The rest of the photos have developed beautifully with only the slightest brightness adjustment.
It was overcast all day, heavily gray as you'll see in some of the other pics, but it was simply
beautiful weather. Cool, crisp, almost no rain.  And Pittsburgh is awesome. I wish I traveled
there more often.  I think I might, once I show Brent some of the opportunities there.

I don't usually participate in this one because my icons are SO blatant.  But [personal profile] anita_margaritafound some to ask about, so here we go.

Fire:  I decided to change my layout to a fall theme
and these Chihuly pics were perfect with the color scheme.
So I added them to use for fall, will likely delete a couple when winter
comes around.  I call this one fire cause that's what it looks like.
Like I said - blatant.

Sunball:  Again, Chihuly for fall.  The word "Sunball" is funny to me
because Kentuckians use the word instead of "the sun".  I've actually
read the word in poetry written by a Kentucky man, and it's just such a
hillbilly thing.

Mollybird:  I LOVE parrots.  Have raised a couple, one of which was
named Molly.  She looked exactly like this bird. And of course her eyes
dilated like this when she was intensely studying something.  Parrots
are marvelous creatures. It's said that men in Roman times were
given a parrot to train to prove they were capable of commanding men.

Brain Candy:  Again, obvious I think.  But isn't it PRETTY??
Books are magic for me.  I can lose myself in one for hours or days
and the best ones ARE brain candy. Delicious, relaxing, pleasant to
the mind. And even if they don't last long, they leave a delightful mind taste.

Cherheart: This one just cracks me UP!  Cher as the Madonna.  It's brilliant,
because she looks so perfect in the character, and also because she's so
FAR from virginal.  But she IS passionate and a loving person. I use her when
I'm feeling amused and fond of someone.

MmmCheese!:  Mmmm cheese!  One of my favorite foods.

Blue Persian:  The name of the glass sculpture, again Chihuly.  Yes, I'm
obsessed.  Don't care.  I want to TOUCH this stuff!  Someday, brother.

And if you comment here, I'll ask you about seven of yours too!

I took yesterday off work, because my head hurt and I was nauseous all day Monday.  Felt like crap.  Still don't feel good.

Stayed with Brent last night instead of going for the sleep study.  I don't WANT that damned machine. I don't want yet ANOTHER thing to take care of every morning, and get sinus infections anyway.  No.  Fuck them.

Oh. And I had bad dreams all night.  Can barely remember them.  Don't want to really.

I am going to see this either the weekend before or the weekend after my birthday.  Dammit.  I am probably going to take Scarlett, as part of her birthday as well.  I asked Brent to take me, but he probably can't afford it.  I understand that, and it's cool.  It's probably something Scarlett & I should do together anyway.

I'm coughing my head off this morning.  I hate cigarettes.

I am no icon maker. Never have been. I just use the LJ icon maker to get pictures the right size.  But as I said, i couldn't sleep this morning, and after counseling Ms. Ruthie (LOL) I started chopping up my Chihuly pics in Paint.  I'm not interested in credit, I don't care if you use them as a base or whatever, it's no biggie. It's not my art. It's his. Some of these were just too beautiful to crop any further, and I didn't like how Paint cropped them when I took them down to 100x100. So you're on your own there. JUST PLEASE DON'T HOTLINK.  Here's what I came up with:

It's been a few years since I mentioned my fascination with artist Dale Chihuly.  Chihuly is a glass blower who creates the most magnificent sculptures I've ever seen.  I stumbled across him on PBS one night and was mesmerized. The show detailed chandeliers he created to be hung over the canals in Venice. No electric power, just thousands of pieces of glass in all colors shapes and sizes catching the sun's fire and tinkling gently as the wind moves the water.

While I was having trouble sleeping last night I started thinking that photos of Chihuly's art would make great icons. Since I woke at 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep I decided to give it a shot.  I'm NO icon maker, but stumbled my way through Paint and came up with 18 or so.

I've made myself a vow.  I will NOT DIE until I've seen a Chihuly exhibit.  There's one in Pittsburgh right now, through November. I wish we had the money to go.

Here's a teaser:

Icons in a post to follow.
